Shock news: world keeps on turning

The RISC OS licencing crisis is dominating the headlines at the moment, so let's put our speculation on hold for a while and focus on some other developments in the community.

CJE Micro's are taking over all sales, distribution and marketing of Photodesk Ltd's products - OHP2, PhotoReal drivers, CameraDesk and the award winning PhotoDesk. A new version of Photodesk (3.06) will be made available shortly which prevents memory problems with Dynamic Areas.

RCI will have an updated version of MusicMan at the RISC OS Expo 2004 show this weekend, allowing users to easily encode Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio files - existing users will receive e-mail updates next week. RCI will also be selling the Simtec/STD Unipod on their stand.

APDL/ProAction are putting together a full colour guide to their Topologika back-catalogue and producing a CD-ROM containing demos of all their software from Sleuth to ProArtisan. The CD-ROM will cost £10 - which seems rather pricey for a demo, even though it can be deducted against any educational software title. ProAction's David Bradforth assures us that "it's more than your average demo disc". We shall have to wait and see...

Rob Davison has released v0.32 of his "variations on a theme" image processing program, available from his website. Variations now includes a pseudo filer that uses thumbnails embedded in JPEG images produced by digital cameras and some applications.

So is Photodesk finished? I wish this had been made clear.

It may take a while, but RISC OS quite often manages to grasp new software visas in the end. Not so long ago MP3 was a joke on a RiscPC - I remember leaving my Kinetic on all night to encode a single CD track at full quality - Now I can "easly" do it with MusicMan. Good stuff. Another title to add to my shopping list.
