The Icon Bar: News and features: TEK delayed (again)

TEK delayed (again)

Posted by Tim Fountain on 16:17, 15/4/2002 | ,

Artex's "definite" TEK release date of April 15th (that's today) appears to have slipped. In a press release sent out this afternoon, Jan Klose explains that the game itself is finished but the installer and manual are still being polished off.

People who pre-ordered the strategy game will shortly receive details on how to make payment, and the game itself should start appearing towards the end of this month or the start of May. To try and keep the fans happy, Artex have put up a rather nice looking rendered TEK picture (1024x768) for use as a desktop backdrop.

The game can still be pre-ordered for £30, and apparently there's a "special gift" for anyone who orders before April 29th.

Unregistered user "The time has come! 15 April 02. Release date. Definitely."

Why does this not surprise me?

Unregistered user It doesn't really matter though, does it? As long as I can buy it at Wakefield, there's no problem!

Unregistered user Give the Artex guys a break. I'm sure it will be out fairly soon so no need to worry. As long as we see it at Wakefield then I'm not bothered.

Unregistered user This sounds like it could be another "Intimidate Jan" Wakefield :-)

Just remembering a couple of years ago when he turned around to see a bunch of people who had just turned around to look at him. He looked slightly shocked :-) And I never did hear about all those irritating pointless little niggling points about Exodus I brought up.

Here's hoping I've not scared Jan off coming! I might not be this year, since I'm pretty broke, but I would like to get my hands on TEK. Time will tell.

Unregistered user "Just remembering a couple of years ago when he turned around to see a bunch of people who had just turned around to look at him. He looked slightly shocked :-)"

That's my usual expression and has nothing to do with being angry or shocked! :-) I'll try to smile even more this time.

"And I never did hear about all those irritating pointless little niggling points about Exodus I brought up."

So that was you! :-) I always wanted to do an "Exodus II" - but, well, if the Artex people have learned one thing during the last years, then it's "never try to do two projects at once"...

Unregistered user All I can say about an Exodus II is that I imagine quite a lot of people will want you to do one. Not me, though. The first one kept me up for too many very late nights as it was! Great game.

Unregistered user Try stealing some ideas from Pax Imperia : Eminent Domain on the peecee, putting them with the good aspects of Exodus and then bingo, a great 4x space strategy.

Unregistered user Hmm, now I think back I had a few discs of a PD game I wrote when I went to Wakefield. I didn't give one to Jan in case he laughed.
I did give one to somebody to the visible horror of an ally :o

Unregistered user Yes I would love an Exodus2. I seem to remember the closing sequence to Exodus making somesort of reference to an Exodus2. Actually the closing sequence to Exodus was really cool. I remeber laughing when it told me how many times I used my bombers. 127 times! Ha ha I always did rule with an Ironfist. To be honest I think Exodus is probably the best native Risc OS game ever! I remember the time it came out, I was still fairly new to RISC OS and I had never seen a game like it. I remember showing a couple of PC owning friends the game and their Jaws dropped. The only thing I didn't like about Exodus was the space combat system. Artex should have done something like the ground combat system instead. To be honest I'm yet to see a game that impressed me as much as Exodud did all those years ago. Oh happy memories....

Unregistered user Yikes :p

I still insist that if you have a peecee card or indeed a peecee you try to find Pax Imperia : Eminent Domain in the bottom of a bargain bin somewhere. While it had flaws (no personality what so ever, no ground combat and extremely lame diplomacy), the space combat and ship designing sections were unparalleled.

Unregistered user They do. I'm not deliberatly trying to cause a fuss; it's just I genuinely don't see what the problem is with "Sexodous" - it's hardly offensive. I mean, I don't expect to have to censor myself that much!

I don't suppose anyone has a copy of TEK yet? I suppose the start of April is more likely.

Unregistered user Erm, the start of April was three weeks ago... you meant the start of May I presume? Anyway I've preordered a copy of TEK and haven't even recieved my letter with payment details yet (as promised by Jan Klose) so I would be surprised if anyone has as of just now, recieved the game.

The annoying thing is that I have exams coming in May, then in the middle of June I'm off to Finland for three months (the land of no Acorn) so if I don't get a letter from Artex soon, or preferably a game, I'll have preordered a game that I won't be able to play until nearer christmas...

Unregistered user I have to say I think the words "nob head" are far more offensive than "sexodus" I also wish people would use their name rather than Guest as it makes it impossible to follow a discussion or in this case arguement:-)
