TEK delayed (again)

Posted by Tim Fountain on 16:17, 15/4/2002 | ,

Artex's "definite" TEK release date of April 15th (that's today) appears to have slipped. In a press release sent out this afternoon, Jan Klose explains that the game itself is finished but the installer and manual are still being polished off.

People who pre-ordered the strategy game will shortly receive details on how to make payment, and the game itself should start appearing towards the end of this month or the start of May. To try and keep the fans happy, Artex have put up a rather nice looking rendered TEK picture (1024x768) for use as a desktop backdrop.

The game can still be pre-ordered for £30, and apparently there's a "special gift" for anyone who orders before April 29th.

Unregistered user I agree... after all, sexodus could be in the vein of sextant or sextuple, neither of which (I would hope) could be taken in offence. Why am I posting this?

Unregistered user Yes. The start of May. Sorry, I'm a fool. :-) And it looks like there isn't as much debate about Sexadous as I thought, apart from our prudish guest... to be fair, I'm really more obsessed with RISC OS than smut :-)

I shall be buying TEK at Wakefield, anyway. And hopefully there will be a copy I can try out there. Something playable was demoed at Wakefield 2001, wasn't it?

Unregistered user Bah shuddup, we were having a nice discussion about Exodus 2 before you moralists started whining about using the word sex in a joking sense. Those that need to grow up are really the ones that get offended by such things :p

Unregistered user Yes I think Tek is going to be great. The screenshots look excellent and I think were in for a real treat.

Will the two prats arguing about wether "sexodus" is offensive or not, get a life! No one cares! oh and have the guts to use names rather than logging in as guest. If you haven't got the guts to put a name to what you write, then please don't bother writing anything. Thanks.

Unregistered user Well, I the only way I can contribute is to say Artex are producing a 'Sexy' game, late or not!

No nitpicking now, Ben B.

I assume that's the reason for this put-back?

Unregistered user I must admit, AN UPDATE MIGHT BE NICE. Listening, Jan? Just to keep us informed and keep us from sending threatening emails to Artex and such like. It's been long awaited and more awaiting is awearing us down...

Unregistered user People who have pre-ordered TEK will receive the promised notice with details today. And Acorn Arcade (and Acorn Gaming) can expect to receive review copies within the next few days. One of the problems is that the CD and the manual have not been manufactured yet. But this will be the case for the Wakefield show. We also had some stability problems under RISC OS 4 (and I might add that RISC OS Ltd were not too helpful in this respect). And as I have written before, people can expect to receive the game at the end of April or at the beginning of May (which is now) depending on the production speed.

Unregistered user What if the CD's and manual cannot be manufactured for Wakefield - then it could be weeks after the definite release date!

Unregistered user I agree. But I am confident that this won't happen. I'm confident because I am sitting here in the office night and day to ensure that everything is manufactured within the next two or three days. TEK has been developed for over four years, so please give us these last few days to get it published ! :)

Unregistered user Well, I'm certainly looking forward to playing TEK, and I don't mind a little delay as it ensures TEK won't eat into too much of my revision time :-)

Unregistered user Well I've had two emailss from Artex now (mailing error, apparently) and they say RCI is getting ready to distribute it... so it must be pretty much ready then! Thanks Jan!

Speaking of revision time... from now until June is essays and exams and then I'm leaving the country for the summer... which means that if TEK arrives sometime in May, I'll have to be playing it during exams :( hmmm I see a clash of priorities ahead...
