At about 5:05pm last night flooding took out power to ArgoNet's offices in Chichester. This might not sound very newsworthy on the face of it, but given the number of RISC OS sites that are hosted by ArgoNet - many for free - a large portion of the RISC OS community went dark for over 12 hours.

Although most of ArgoNet's main servers are hosted in proper hosting facilities in London and so subscriber's mail etc. wasn't hit, ArgoNet has allowed some small servers owned by prominant members of the RISC OS community to use their office leased line. This means that as well as our own server - hosting sites such as this one and Acorn Arcade - even RISCOS Ltd.'s site was hit.

The machines in question sit on UPS power backups, but these only last long enough for a sysadmin to shut down the machine down safely. They have all been started back up safely, but the entire office complex in which ArgoNet is situated is currently being run from a large generator in the car park, so keep your fingers crossed!
